"Tinawagan ako ni Bong Go at sabi sa akin, 'Sir Freddie, hangga't wala pa po iyong department of culture and the arts na hinihingi po ninyo sa presidente ay puwede po bang kayo po muna ang mamahala sa NCCA?" Aguilar said in the interview Monday. Aguilar, a staunch supporter of Duterte, explained that he wants to establish a department of the culture and the arts so that he can forward his advocacy of starting a "cultural revolution." Aguilar is one of Duterte's favorite local singers. Duterte, who espouses the virtue of dying for one's country in the name of honor, praised Aguilar for expressing his love for the Philippines in the way he composes his lyrics. "That guy is a nationalist," Duterte, in an earlier press conference, said. "His love of country shows in the way he uses his songs, which are always about corruption and what ails this country: the social injustice." An official announcement regarding the NCCA post, currently held by chairperson Felipe de Leon Jr., has yet to be made. Should it push through, Aguilar will be the third musician to be offered a post in government following the appointments of Jimmy Bondoc and RJ Jacinto. All three campaigned for a Duterte presidency.
