License to cover: Andanar wants Palace media access for netizens with 5K followers

Famous netizens can soon have access to President Rodrigo Duterte after Communications Secretary Martin Andanar released guidelines for “accrediting “interim social media practitioners.”
Under Department Order No. 015, social media practitioners will be granted accreditation to cover Duterte so they can “generate news and information for the citizenry through social media platforms.”
The accreditation, however, shall be on a per event or activity basis unless expressly stated otherwise.
Netizens who are 18 years old and above with at least 5,000 followers on any social media platform can apply for accreditation with the Social Media Office headed by Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson in Malacanang.
Uson’s office will review the application and issue the necessary accreditation, which is only valid for single use.
The accreditation may be revoked if the netizen was found to have abused or misused it.
There will be a six-month trial period for the accreditation policy.
Andanar said the accreditation process was put in place “in the interest of recognizing emerging communication platforms and harnessing the full potential of social media tools in pursuit of the PCOO’s mandate to engage the citizenry…”
